How to prepare for placement in IT Sector?

Every year number of companies hire freshers by visiting college campuses. Recruitment in any well-known company is like a dream for many students. If you are planning to attend the IT job hiring process, it is important to know and understand how the IT recruitment process works.

The recruitment process generally involves multiple stages, which gets tougher with each proceeding stage. Lack of required skills and knowledge will affect the chances of your recruitment.

So this article is going to help you in placement preparation and guide you to achieve your dream job but before we start I hope that you already know the Pros and Cons of Private Jobs. If yes, let's gooo..

  1. Pre-Placement presentation by companies: You will get a chance to know every detail of the organization and salaries.
  2. Know the Qualifications they are demanding:
    • Generally, companies take interviews of only those students that belong to some particular branch of engineering.
    • You should keep your percentage to at least 60 to 65 or 6.5 to 7.5 CGPA throughout your course.
  3. Aptitude Test: An aptitude practice test is a basic test that every company prefers irrespective of the role or branch. The motive of the aptitude test is to filter potential candidates. So, you are tested on your mathematical, logical, decision-making, problem-solving, and English vocabulary skills. Usually, in 2 to 3 months, you will be prepared for it. Aptitude tests generally contain three sections as follows:
    • Quantitative aptitude: Profit and loss, compound interest, permutation and combination, HCF and LCM, Time and work, Algebra, Percentage, geometry, etc.
    • Logical reasoning: Puzzles, Data interpretations, number series, blood relations, Venn diagrams, arrangements directions, graphs, patterns, etc.
    • English language: Reading comprehension, vocabulary, fill in the blanks, antonyms, and synonyms, jumbled words, paragraph completion, sentence completion, etc.
  4. Coding test: The coding test is considered the toughest stage of this whole recruitment process, candidates find it difficult to pass this round. For passing this round, you need knowledge of competitive programming, good question understanding, and practice to finish it on time. So, you should concentrate on test cases and also refer to company-specific coding questions.
  5. Group discussion: Not all companies opt for this round of tests, but few companies use this for screening candidates. A group of students is formed and a common topic is given to the group to discuss. As the discussions start, candidates are supervised and judged for their communication skills, leadership skills, listening, and retaining skills. So you need to brush up on the latest news, current affairs, and technical terms.
  6. Interview: Most companies conduct this test in a one-on-one setting, but if the number of students is large then they may conduct it in a group. This test will check your knowledge and expertise in the subject/branch you are studying and other technical knowledge that will be related to your profession. In this round, you are also judged for your confidence, psychology, and behavior. So for the preparation for this round, you should do internships, participate in social activities, industry meetings, etc to boost your knowledge and confidence.

Above mentioned points might help you to score better but there are some mistakes too that students commit often like not carrying the right attitude and body language, not preparing for a professional resume, being overconfident, etc. that could also reduce your chances in recruitment. So be careful and prepared. ALL THE BEST!
